| For as long as I can remember I have always loved music, hearing the different sounds, rhythms and styles of my parents' records or hearing them on the radio. | ![]() |

| When
I was around 7 years old I knew I wanted to do something connected with
music, at the time, I think I mainly wanted to be a singer. I watched
Top Of The pops, as I was so young I think I just absorbed everything.
I was drawn to the Glam Rock era; the colourful, mad dress sense and the
rock tunes. Three-minute pop songs have always appealed to me, but so
did rock music like Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. Musical experimentation
really interested me; the use of space and light and dark.
I have always enjoyed a broad spectrum of musical interests. As an 11-year-old, I could find myself listening to Disco music and equally was attracted to the punk/New-Wave scene, mainly the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Banshees etc. Many forms of music interested me, and provided the inspiration for me to move from an active observer to an active participant. I bought a microphone when I was 11, and two years later bought my first guitar, a Hondo Les Paul copy for £10. I struggled with it and didn't learn to play it properly until I was 16. By the time I was 17 I sang in my first band, Procession, a trio playing electric guitar - we were a bit like Souxsie and The Banshees playing rave music! We played a handful of gigs then broke up. From here I played in a band called Head In Hands, playing indie pop music, at venues such as pubs and universities. |

Over the next few years I played in a number of bands, doing everything from blues to covers of pop classics. | |
| In
1997 I formed a band called Starfish
who were very much indie rock, the band produced a CD. After the demise
of Starfish I joined a Clash tribute
band. Whilst it was good fun, I realised that playing other people's songs
was not what I really wanted and decided to concentrate on writing my
own material. I had 10 songs and Mick McGarr
agreed to produce them, as I had worked with him previously with Starfish.
I enjoyed the freedom of working on my own songs, and being able to develop
my songs the way I wanted them to be, playing a number of different instruments
and being able to create a strong melody, in songs that related to my
own situation and experiences.
Currently I am working on a new range of songs, I have learned a lot from the work I have already undertaken, which has given me more confidence and enthusiasm to continue my songwriting and performing. Click below to hear a selection of tracks. |
